91 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Saturated ruby. Penetrating aromas of blackberry, licorice, smoky minerals and candied rose. Densely packed and lively on the palate, showing suave floral lift to its flavors of red berries, licorice pastille and spicecake. Smooth and appealingly sweet, with a fine dusting of tannins and very good mineral-driven persistence.
89 Wine Spectator This polished red offers smoky and gamy notes that frame cherry, black olive and licorice flavors, creating a savory, slightly austere character, while light tannins and firm acidity provide focus, leading to a minerally finish. Drink now through 2019.
89 Wine Enthusiast Aromas of brick dust, vitamins and baked fruits are gritty and require some navigating. This has a wiry, tight feel, yet in terms of flavors, it’s ripe almost to the point of being raisiny. Heat, hard tannins and dried berry fruit flavors direct the finish. Drink through 2017.

96 Wine & Spirits Magazine Six families from Priorat decided to join forces and, in 2002, created Genium Celler. They have eight vineyards around the region, some of them planted in 1910. This is a blend of garnacha and carinena from those ancient vines, blended with merlot, syrah and cabernet. It stands firm with the strength of a Praetorian guard, presenting the structure of the finest Priorat. It is grand and expansive, packed with red fruit flavors together with spice and herbal notes. The schisty touch on the finish adds complexity and charm. Six years from the vintage, this wine is still in its youth, needing at least another five years to fully develop.
91 Wine Enthusiast Minerally aromas of crushed stone, schist and red-berry fruits feed into a tight palate with an iron grip. Plum, raspberry, cherry and cassis flavors cover the full spectrum of red fruits, while a chalky, minerally finish confirms the wine's intensity and structure. Drink through 2022.

91 Vinous Media (aged in French oak barriques, 20% new, for one year): Opaque ruby. Energetic dark berry aromas are complemented by zesty minerality, spice notes and a hint of mocha. Nicely concentrated and focused, offering penetrating blackberry and bitter cherry flavors, with bright spicy lift and cut. Fruity and open-knit; silky tannins add shape and gentle grip to a long, sappy finish. 2017 - 2022

93 Wine & Spirits Magazine About half garnacha, the rest a mix of syrah, merlot, cariñena and cabernet, this is blended from the fruit of eight vineyards in different villages of Priorat. Smoky and generous in sweet spice, it feels simultaneously exotic and tremendously fruity, almost as intense as ripe blackberries and raspberries in syrup. It’s big and impressive, ready now for lamb tagine.
