93 View from the Cellar The 2011 Godello from Bodegas Astrales is the current release of this wine from this fine estate, as the team ages this wine for more than four years after bottling prior to release. It is produced from vines planted in 1985 on slate soils. The wine offers up a beautifully complex bouquet of musk melon, pear, fresh lime, spring flowers, just a touch of candied lemon peel, a complex base of minerality and a delicate topnote of paraffin. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a lovely core, excellent acids, impeccable balance and a long, vibrant and classy finish. This is a beautiful example of just how well Godello can age! 2017-2025+.
92 Vinous Media (fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks and then aged in bottle for 50 months before release) Pale gold. Expansive aromas of poached pear, melon, tangerine, toasty lees and minerals carry a suave floral overtone and a touch of iodine. Deep-pitched, oak-spiced citrus and orchard fruit flavors show superb energy and focus, picking up hints of buttered toast and anise on the back half. Offers a compelling blend of power and finesse and finishes sappy, gently sweet and very long, leaving sexy vanilla and honeysuckle notes behind.
